Established in 2002, the primary goal of the firm, Ira Frazin Architect, has been to create connections between user, function and innovation. Challenging ourselves with a wide scope of projects, the size and mission of each design continues to push us in fresh directions.
From intimate residential designs to larger-use commercial, educational and retail efforts, IFA finds that collaboration is key, whether it is with the homeowner and their family, or within a union of complimentary designers, architects and engineers. Economically smart and sustainable materials paired with uniquely skilled craftspeople anchor our designs. A great project is the result of shared knowledge, respect and experience.
IFA’s residential portfolio features both additions and renovations to a variety of homes in the northeastern and southwestern U.S, as well as internationally, where we were tasked with combining three townhouses into a single home (Beijing, China).
The “non-residential” work of IFA has included the transformation of a former department store into an interactive learning environment for charter school students. IFA also gave form to the spirit of young internet companies; devised retail environments for products ranging from high-end kitchens to budget clothing; oversaw the redesign of an ice cream production facility; and designed an electrical substation for temporary use during the construction of new subway tunnels.
